Sea Ghost Charters

About us: I grew up in Prince Edward Island. As the son of a commercial fisherman I was exposed to fishing at a very young age and basically grew up on boats. I fished commercially through my school years for Lobster, Herring, Mackerel, Flounder and Ling Cod. I joined the RCMP in 1974 and was relocated to British Columbia where I worked in various communities throughout the Province. I was always an avid fisherman and took advantage of any /all fishing opportunities that were available, whether on Lakes, Rivers or on the Ocean.

I was transferred to Kitimat, B.C. in 1985 and immediately became consumed with Salmon, Halibut and Steelhead fishing in my time off. I started running Salmon and Halibut Fishing Charters on the Douglas Channel in 1987. I was relocated to Victoria, B.C.  in 1990 and immediately sought out a boat large enough to conduct fishing Charters, still on a part time basis. I began mooring my boat and fishing out of Pedder Bay Marina, which is situated between Victoria and Sooke, B.C. In those days Halibut sport fishing was still catching on in the Victoria area, so I focused on learning the Salmon fishing areas and became a successful Salmon Fisherman. I ran Salmon fishing charters for several years while dedicating a large amount of time learning Halibut fishing spots, fishing techniques, baits and fishing gear. I eventually became consistent as a Halibut fisherman and at that point started running Halibut fishing charters. At first Halibut fishing charters were a small percentage of the Charters I ran, however that quickly changed and soon became my staple. I retired from the RCMP in 2005 but I continued to run fishing charters out of Pedder Bay Marina, where I first started.

In 2012 I was approached by Gibbs Delta Fishing Tackle regarding their Pro-Staff program and after careful consideration was elated to join their team.

Favorite Gibbs-Delta Product: I use a lot of different gear with various combinations for both Halibut and Salmon fishing. When I am jigging for Halibut, my favorite jig is a 16 oz. Chartreuse Lead head with a white Hali Hawg tail.

When bait fishing Hali, my favorite is a large glow spreader bar, with a Jumbo (9″) Peanut  Squid in combo with a White Curly Tail. I like all light colored Jumbo Glow Squid when bait fishing in deep (300′ plus) water.

My favorite summer Chinook Salmon fishing combination this past year was the Gibbs Raspberry Flasher, with either a Rhy’s Davis Chrome teaser head or a Rhy’s Davis Chartreuse teaser head with Anchovy. I also had a great deal of success while using the same teaser heads on a Gibbs No Bananas Flasher.

For Winter Chinook fishing I like the Gibbs Red / Moon Jelly / Glow flasher with a 3 1/2″ Seaghost G-Force Spoon, a 3 1/2″ G-Force Sardine spoon or a 4 1/2″ Double Glow (OG195R) Yamashita Squid.

I will run various combinations of other Gibbs Delta Gear to try and get hits if it is slow, but all all of the above are tried and work consistently for me.
